PREDO PROFILES #5: DICE MAN

For the month leading up to World Cup Predos, we will profile the runners and riders in a series of intimate interviews. This episode features the mysterious DICE MAN character. Who are they? What are they about?

PREDO: Hello DICE MAN

DICE MAN: Hello. For sake of clarity it should be known I am not a MAN, nor am I DICE (I am a die and I have no gender, for I am a die).

PREDO: Care to explain more?

DICE MAN: Of course. The difficulty in getting everybody to participate on every day of a tournament is known. People have families, people are sentimental, people are waylaid by surprises. The Predo Panel know this and have introduced DICE MAN into the mix to help with this.

PREDO: How do you mean?

DICE MAN: Where a person does not submit on time, I, DICE MAN, am used. I will be rolled to select a scoreline and a player who scores the goal. How this will be done will be explained nearer the start of World Cup Predo.

PREDO: Why with that logic you could see if people are able to compete against near-total randomness in a meaningless universe?

DICE MAN: Correct as usual, Predo. There will be a DICE MAN character playing along against the human competitors. Is Mark really that bad? Can he beat my choices which are made almost at random? We shall see.

PREDO: I think this is a fantastic innovation and almost certainly you can trust the Predo Panel to enact this honourably.

DICE MAN: I agree. God does not play dice, but Predo does.
