For the month leading up to World Cup Predos, we will profile the
runners and riders in a series of intimate interviews. In this episode
we speak to a qualifier from the lower league play-offs, Ando Robertsy.
PREDO: Ando, you've qualified for World Cup Predo through the lower league play-offs. Do you think you can make an impact on the big stage?
ANDO: I've been working hard on my predo game in the lower leagues for a number of years... It was a big decision to drop down a few divisions but it has helped me grow as a predictor, I've learned not to rely too heavily on home wins, and I'm less averse to predicting draws. I really feel like I'm ready to take that step back up to the big time now.
PREDO: The key to winning is knowing when to play your joker. Have you any ideas when you might use yours?
ANDO: Go in hard and early. Take risks. Win big.
PREDO: Qualifiers generally face a tough time from established competitors. Have you any plans on how to deal with them?
ANDO: It's as much a psychological game with the big fellas as anything else. Get in their faces, play mind games, make them doubt their own prediction game. They'll second guess themselves and make mistakes.
PREDO: Finally, Ando, they call you the Mr. Flash of the lower leagues - driving your electric car around the Cotswolds without a care in the world, spending up to £4 on premium lager - how do you think this attitude will convert into such a serious prediction arena?
ANDO: It may seem like plain sailing living it up in rural Oxfordshire, but people underestimate the strength of character that's required when walking into a pub or restaurant and knowing that at least 80% of the people in there have never voted anything other than Tory. You face those kinds of odds and you can face anything.
